Will Hoge On Mountain Stage

NPR

Singer-songwriter Will Hoge makes his fourth visit to Mountain Stage, recorded live in Charleston, W.V. With his mix of heartland rock, soul and country, Hoge’s powerful voice, songwriting chops and relentless touring schedule have earned him tremendous respect among his peers. His song “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” has become a mainstream radio hit for the Eli Young Band, while his new album Seven has secured Hoge several appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, where he was first introduced by his hero Vince Gill.

Hoge is backed by his own band for a set that includes the emotional ballad “When I Get My Wings,” which was not heard during the radio broadcast. A lifelong Nashville native, Hoge told host Larry Groce that one advantage to living in the town is that when his children tell their teachers that their dad is a musician, they don’t freak out, “because there’s 10 other ones in the class.” more

MADISON……

Spent a lovely night at an exclusive Madison resort called the Baymont Inn and Suites. Quite lovely thanks. Went last night to see Jason Isbell and Justin Townes Earle. The show was great. Isbell’s band keeps getting tighter and tighter. Blade and Siggi had never seen Justin play and were really impressed. Blade made the comment that, “between the shows with Katie Herzig and seeing him(JTE) play it feels good to be from Nashville.” Agreed my friend. Off to a radio interview in a bit, then the show, then the 10 hour drive home to make my brothers wedding. Wish us luck

GREENVILLE…..

Well DAMN!! That’s about all I can say. These two shows were pretty much all the reasons you’d ever dream of starting a band. Both nights were just fun as hell. Both nights were WAY past sold out! The response from the crowds just made my damn month. I’m hoping that the response to the new live CD will be good. Great seeing new and old faces at both shows. Found my new favorite Italian joint just down the street from the Handlebar. I don’t know how I’ve missed that all these years. Thanks to the ‘Buzzard’ for the radio support! John and the kind folks at the club even let us use the shower this time!! I really can’t say enough, so I’ll just leave it at a big damn thank you to everybody! Y’all make it worth doing what we do!
Excited about heading back to the northeast this week. There will be more news about ‘Again Somewhere Tomorrow’. Plus some video news and perhaps so other little tidbits soon. We’ll keep you posted. All good things here.
See you all very soon.

RADIO, RADIO……

So we’ve had our first week going for adds at AAA radio for the new record. Some stations are playing, “Woman Be Strong” others are playing, “Pocket Full Of Change.” I guess that’s one of the great things about an independent record. We can let them play whatever the hell they want. We don’t care, just get the music out there. Now I know there’s lots of bitching about radio. We do it. You do it. “It’s all the same crap….” “….they don’t play anything new”, etc. Hell alot of that is true!! But there are certain places out there that are really fighting the same fight we are. Trying to bring you great music, new music, old music, just killer stuff. So here’s a list of cities and stations that are on our side after the first week:

Columbus, OH WCBE 90.5
Baltimore, MD WTMD 89.7
St. Louis, MO KDBB 104.3
Woodstock, NY WDST 100.1
Cheyenne, WY KUWR 91.9
Bay City, TX KZRC 92.5
Virginia Beach, VA WYOU
Goshen, IN WGCS 91.1
Pemberton, NJ WBZC 88.9
Auburn, AL WQNR 99.9
Nashville, TN WRLT 100.1
Paonia, CO KVNF 90.9
Akron, OH WAPS 91.3
Spokane, WA KPND 95.3
Missoula, MT KDTR 103.3
Wilmington, NC WUIN 106.7
Wenahatchee, WA KOHO 101.1
Sharon, CT WKZE 98.1
Philadelphia, PA WXPN 88.5
New York, NY WFUV 90.7

Not a bad start for a bunch of clowns trying to fight the man and do this on our own. Now hopefully there’ll be more each week for the next bit. We’ll keep you posted. So if you’re in these areas, give ‘em a listen. If you hear it, tell them thanks. Let them know you appreciate it as much as we do. Does this lead to a number one record? Don’t know. Could it lead to more people being exposed to the album, then the band, then the live show? Hell yes! That’s the big goal here. Just helping us build a carrer in and around all of these markets. So tell your friends and listen up and we’ll hope to see y’all soon.

IN CANADA…..

Sitting at our campground in Hamilton, Ontario. Fun show last night. Very cool little club. Great mediterranean food. First of 2 shows with the Jimmy Swift Band. Real nice guys. Good band. Different from us. Very electronic at times but cool. Playing with them again tonight.

Now I have a favor to ask. We stopped the other night to buy copies of the new Dixie Chicks album. PLEASE GO BUY THIS RECORD. It’s great. I haven’t wanted a record to succeed (other than ANY of mine) in a long, long time. They’re in a side of the industry that has lined up to try and break these women. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if that didn’t happen.
I know, you may be a Bush fan(the pres. not the band) and say, “…but she talked bad about the President in another country…..” blah, blah, blah. Or you may say, “…..entertainers should sing, not talk politics….” Sorry, y’all talk politics at your water coolers, so do we. Plus that was 4 years ago. Now you absolutely don’t have to agree with ANYTHING she said, thinks or believes. However, they aren’t sorry. I love that. Country radio has said they won’t support them. Said they need to ‘know their place and apologize’. There’s no room on country radio for this kind of stuff. Oh, but there’s plenty of room for the ‘honkey tonk badonk-a-donk’ or whatever in the shit that is. NO! They’re gonna do it the way THEY want to do it. Prove that they don’t NEED country radio.

Well, I bought the record and listened to it. It’s wonderful! It sounds like people making music because they believe in it. They have things they want to say, like them or not. Also, believe it or not, they actually PLAY on the record AND live!! This is what music is all about. To Natalie, Emily and Martie thank you for putting yourselves on the line. For making real music. For being one of the ONLY things in modern country music to believe in. Please keep it up.
